The news of Michael Jackson’s unconfirmed death late on Thursday night in the UK was met with disbelief and total shock. As more and more people became aware of the terrible news, Farrah Fawcett Major’s death almost slipped by unnoticed, and the internet bowed down under the weight of extremely heavy traffic, everyone trying to find out more. I was too upset to write my usual bingo blog on Friday, any words on the subject would have been trite at that time. Despite obits pouring out on Twitter and Facebook all over the world and countless reports by news organisations, the fact remained that Whacko Jacko would never perform again in this life. With bingo promotions getting bigger and better all the time, some online bingo sites had even been offering tickets to the Michael Jackson concerts in the O2 arena, these concerts will sadly now never take place. I think I was not the only person who was slightly sceptical at the thought of a 50 back-to-back concert comeback, much as I would have loved to have been there. It’s been a subdued atmosphere over the weekend, and almost everytime I turn on the radio or the television, a Michael Jackson song is playing, which brings back the reality that he’ll never sing again. It’s going to take a while before I can listen to one of his songs without tears. RIP.
